Hungarian PM Orban Highlights Joint Efforts with Türkiye to Promote Peace in Ukraine

Ukraine

Ankara, The Gulf Observer: Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban on Monday underscored the joint efforts of Hungary and Türkiye to advance peace initiatives aimed at ending the war in Ukraine. Speaking to reporters aboard his flight to Istanbul, Orban said both countries shared a clear understanding that “they can only lose in the war,” which has encouraged close coordination on reconciliation efforts, according to the Hungary Today news portal.

Orban emphasized that Budapest and Ankara hold high-level meetings annually, noting that this year’s discussions focus on four key areas: economy and trade, migration, the war in Ukraine, and energy cooperation.

Describing Türkiye as a “regional power,” the Hungarian premier said the regular meetings with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan provide an opportunity to discuss developments across Europe and Eurasia “as friends.”

He highlighted the positive trajectory of bilateral economic ties, noting that regular engagement has helped boost trade volumes from €2–2.5 billion to €4.5–5 billion in recent years. Turkish investment in Hungary has continued to grow, while Hungarian companies have also expanded their presence in Türkiye.

Orban also praised Türkiye’s role on the international stage, noting that over the past four years it has been the only country to conclude several key agreements, including arrangements to facilitate the delivery of Ukrainian grain to African nations.

The Hungarian leader’s visit to Istanbul is expected to reinforce cooperation across multiple sectors and further align the two countries’ diplomatic efforts regarding the conflict in Ukraine.
