Kazakhstan, Iran See Significant Prospects for Strengthened Cooperation: Tokayev

Kazakhstan

Astana, The Gulf Observer: Kazakhstan and Iran have substantial opportunities to deepen bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said during extended talks with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in Astana, according to media reports.

President Tokayev highlighted that more than 33 years have passed since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Over this period, he noted, Kazakhstan and Iran have built close interstate cooperation, established a constructive political dialogue, and ensured the active functioning of the Intergovernmental Economic Commission.

The Kazakh leader added that the two nations have also developed interparliamentary relations and created a broad legal framework, with over 50 agreements signed to date. Cooperation, he said, continues successfully within various international organizations.

“All this is clear evidence of our traditional friendship and partnership,” Tokayev stated.

He further emphasized Iran’s high international standing, noting the country’s growing socio-economic and scientific-technical capabilities. Tokayev praised the determination of the Iranian leadership and its balanced policies, which, he said, have enabled Iran to achieve “significant success.”

During the meeting, President Tokayev conveyed his wishes for Iran’s continued prosperity and extended his greetings to the country’s Supreme Leader, His Excellency Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Underscoring the significant prospects for cooperation, the Kazakh president pointed to the consistent growth of mutual trade turnover, while stressing the need for further diversification of trade. He identified agriculture, transport and logistics, mining, industry, medicine, and advanced technologies as key areas where cooperation can be expanded.

Tokayev expressed confidence that the documents expected to be signed during the visit would provide fresh momentum to the development of political and economic cooperation between Kazakhstan and Iran.
