Indonesia, Saudi Arabia Discuss Middle East Tensions in Ministerial Phone Call

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono held a telephone conversation with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan on Wednesday to discuss the escalating tensions in the Middle East, according to official statements.
In a post shared on his X account, Sugiono said the Indonesian government expressed deep concern over the latest developments in the region.
“I spoke with His Excellency Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan. The Indonesian government expressed deep concern over the latest escalation of conflict in the Middle East,” he stated.
The Indonesian foreign minister emphasized the importance of respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries, in accordance with international law and the principles of the United Nations Charter.
Sugiono also reiterated Indonesia’s support for efforts aimed at de-escalation, urging all parties involved to exercise maximum restraint and avoid further escalation of the conflict.
In a separate statement posted on X, the Saudi Foreign Ministry confirmed the conversation, noting that the two ministers discussed recent regional developments and ongoing efforts to reduce tensions.
The call comes amid rising hostilities in the region. On February 28, the United States and Israel launched a series of strikes on Iranian targets, including locations in Tehran, reportedly causing damage and civilian casualties. Iran later responded with missile attacks targeting Israeli territory and US military facilities in the region.
In response to the escalation, Indonesia called for an immediate cessation of hostilities and reaffirmed its readiness to help facilitate dialogue aimed at restoring regional stability.
President Prabowo Subianto, through the Foreign Ministry, also conveyed Indonesia’s willingness to support diplomatic initiatives to ease tensions and promote peace in the Middle East.
