Pezeshkian Thanks Aliyev for Condolences, Leaders Discuss Nakhchivan Incident

Baku, The Gulf Observer: President of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian held a telephone conversation with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on March 8, discussing recent regional developments and bilateral cooperation.

During the call, President Pezeshkian expressed his gratitude to President Aliyev for visiting the Iranian Embassy in Azerbaijan to offer condolences following the passing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei and numerous civilians. He also thanked the Azerbaijani president for his intention to provide humanitarian assistance to Iran.

President Pezeshkian noted that the incident involving an airstrike on Nakhchivan had no connection with Iran and assured that the matter would be thoroughly investigated.

President Aliyev, for his part, once again conveyed condolences over the deaths of civilians in the recent events in Iran. He also emphasized the importance of a full investigation into the incident in Nakhchivan.

During the conversation, the two leaders also exchanged views on prospects for expanding joint economic projects and strengthening cooperation between Azerbaijan and Iran.
