Berdimuhamedov Proposes Global Energy Security Framework at Vienna Forum

Vienna, The Gulf Observer: National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov addressed the International Vienna Energy and Climate Forum, presenting a series of strategic proposals aimed at stabilizing global energy markets and enhancing international cooperation.

According to official Turkmen media, Berdimuhamedov called for the development of a comprehensive Global Energy Security Strategy, alongside the establishment of an international Energy Code under the auspices of the United Nations. He also emphasized the need for a universal legal framework to govern energy cooperation and ensure free, stable, and non-discriminatory access to energy resources worldwide.

Highlighting the importance of sustainable energy transitions, Berdimuhamedov proposed the launch of a 10-year global program focused on hydrogen energy development, encouraging broad international participation. He reaffirmed Turkmenistan’s commitment to expanding renewable energy initiatives, particularly in solar and wind power sectors.

The Turkmen leader further announced that a UN Regional Center for Climate Technologies in Central Asia will soon begin operations in Ashgabat, with full support from the government, marking a significant step toward advancing climate innovation in the region.

On the sidelines of the forum in Vienna, Berdimuhamedov held high-level meetings with Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen, as well as senior officials from key international organizations, including the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, the United Nations, and the International Atomic Energy Agency.

The address and accompanying diplomatic engagements underscore Turkmenistan’s proactive role in shaping global energy dialogue and promoting sustainable, cooperative solutions to emerging energy and climate challenges.
