Sharjah Establishes Design Council to Strengthen Creative Industries and Global Design Presence

Sharjah, The Gulf Observer: Sheikha Hoor bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Head of the Sharjah Creative Quarter, has issued an administrative decision establishing the “Sharjah Design Council” as part of efforts to advance the emirate’s creative and cultural industries.
The initiative will be followed by the launch of “Sharjah Design Days,” a specialised platform aimed at bringing together designers, creatives, and industry specialists from around the world to support the development of the design ecosystem and enhance its regional and global presence.
The decision aligns with the vision of the Sharjah Creative Quarter to support creative industries by attracting talent, brands, and innovative practices in the field of design.
According to the announcement, the Sharjah Design Council will focus on developing the design ecosystem in the Emirate of Sharjah through specialised initiatives and programmes that contribute to building a sustainable creative environment. The council also seeks to reinforce Sharjah’s position as a leading regional hub for design and strengthen regional and international partnerships in related sectors.
The council will additionally work to provide educational and training platforms aimed at supporting both emerging and professional designers, while promoting innovation and creative production across the industry.
Among its key responsibilities, the council will formulate and develop strategies and policies related to the design sector, oversee the implementation of programmes and initiatives, organise specialised exhibitions and events, and launch economically and environmentally sustainable initiatives in prototype design and manufacturing.
Officials said the move further strengthens Sharjah’s standing as a prominent regional centre for cultural and creative industries.
