Abu Dhabi, The Gulf Observer: Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan has called for stronger global collaboration and integrated sustainability frameworks to accelerate climate action and ensure long-term environmental impact.

Speaking during the Sustainability Leadership Alumni Insight Sharing Day hosted by University of Cambridge, Sheikha Shamma stressed the need to scale proven climate solutions while removing barriers to innovation through a more unified ecosystem approach.

“We need to scale the solutions we know we have and remove barriers to innovation, but we also need a more consolidated ecosystem approach,” she said during a discussion with Lindsay Hooper at Robinson College.

She added that in an increasingly divided global environment, individuals and institutions must act as bridges to secure a better future for coming generations.

Sheikha Shamma, who serves as President and CEO of Frontier25 and The Climate Tribe, and Chairwoman of Alliances for Global Sustainability, RESET MENA and Aurora50, highlighted the importance of embedding sustainability into institutional structures beyond regulatory compliance.

Discussing climate efforts in the UAE and the wider region, she underscored the role of professionals across all sectors in advancing climate ambitions, noting that climate leadership is not limited to those working directly in environmental organisations.

“One doesn’t have to work for a climate organisation to be a climate leader,” she said. “Use your network intentionally. Climate is interdisciplinary and collaboration is key.”

She further remarked that professionals who integrate climate thinking and systems thinking into their work would create the most enduring impact.

Sheikha Shamma holds a Master of Studies in Sustainability Leadership and an MPhil in Modern Middle Eastern Studies from University of Cambridge.
