Casablanca, The Gulf Observer: Morocco received 7.7 million tourists between January and the end of May 2026, marking a 7 percent increase compared to the same period last year, according to figures released by the Ministry of Tourism, Handicrafts, and Social and Solidarity Economy.

The ministry said the tourism sector continued its strong upward trajectory during the first five months of the year, supported by robust performance in May.

During the month alone, Morocco welcomed 1.7 million tourists, representing a 13 percent increase compared to May 2025 and contributing significantly to the overall growth recorded so far this year.

The latest figures underscore the continued expansion of one of Morocco’s most important economic sectors as the country seeks to attract more international visitors and diversify its tourism offerings.

In a statement accompanying the data, Tourism Minister Fatim-Zahra Ammor said the results demonstrate the effectiveness of the government’s strategy for developing the tourism industry.

She highlighted investments in air connectivity, tourism products, and visitor experience as key drivers behind the sector’s growth.

“The tourism sector continues its positive momentum in 2026,” Ammor said, adding that simultaneous investments in connectivity, tourism offerings, and visitor experience have helped sustain steady growth and enhance Morocco’s appeal as a global travel destination.

According to the minister, the strategy is strengthening Morocco’s attractiveness among travelers from around the world and positioning the country for continued success in the international tourism market.

The 1.7 million tourists recorded in May helped bring total arrivals to 7.7 million during the first five months of 2026, reflecting sustained demand for Morocco as a leading tourist destination.
