Turkmenistan Participates in UNFCCC SB64 Session in Bonn

Bonn, The Gulf Observer: The delegation of Turkmenistan, led by the Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection, is participating in the 64th session of the Subsidiary Bodies of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC SB64), being held in Bonn, Germany, from June 8 to 18, 2026.

During the forum, the Turkmen delegation presented the country’s national position on climate change issues and briefed participants on ongoing efforts to implement commitments under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Paris Agreement.

In its statement, the delegation underscored Turkmenistan’s commitment to global climate action, highlighting measures aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions, improving energy efficiency, introducing environmentally friendly technologies, and expanding renewable energy sources. Officials noted that the updated Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC 3.0) is in the final stages of preparation in cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

The delegation also drew attention to Turkmenistan’s regional climate initiatives, particularly the establishment of the Regional Centre for Climate Technologies for Central Asia in Ashgabat. Participants were informed about the progress of preparatory work for the launch of the Centre, with Turkmenistan expressing readiness to strengthen regional and international cooperation in this area.

On the sidelines of SB64, the Turkmen delegation held a series of bilateral meetings with representatives of UNFCCC member states as well as international and regional organizations. Discussions focused on expanding cooperation in climate policy, adopting modern climate technologies, enhancing regional collaboration, and implementing joint projects to advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Turkmenistan’s participation in the Bonn session reaffirmed the country’s consistent commitment to international cooperation in environmental protection, climate change adaptation, and the promotion of constructive initiatives aimed at ensuring environmental sustainability and the well-being of current and future generations.
