Indonesia

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: Indonesia has extended its deepest condolences to the government and people of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela following the devastating earthquake that struck the country on June 24, causing widespread destruction and significant loss of life.

In a statement shared on its official social media platforms on Saturday, Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed sympathy for the victims and reaffirmed the country’s solidarity with Venezuela during its recovery efforts.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those who lost their lives and all those affected by the tragedy,” the ministry said.

The Foreign Ministry acknowledged that the powerful earthquake caused extensive infrastructure damage and heavy casualties, while expressing confidence in the resilience of the Venezuelan people to rebuild in the aftermath of the disaster.

“We stand in solidarity with the government and the people of Venezuela as they recover from this devastating earthquake. We remain confident in the strength and resilience of the people of Venezuela to rebuild and recover in the challenging days ahead,” the statement added.

According to official reports, a rare double earthquake measuring magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5 struck Venezuela’s northern coast, marking the strongest seismic event recorded in the country in the past 125 years.

As of Saturday, the death toll had risen to 1,430, while 3,238 people were reported injured, according to National Assembly Speaker Jorge Rodriguez.

In response to the disaster, President Delcy Rodriguez declared a national emergency after the earthquake severely affected several regions, including La Guaira and the capital, Caracas.

The international community has begun mobilizing humanitarian assistance for Venezuela, with countries including the United States and Russia offering support for relief and recovery operations.

Indonesia’s National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) has also expressed its readiness to assist if requested by the government. Basarnas Operations Director Edy Prakoso said the agency is prepared to deploy rescue personnel to Venezuela, citing its previous experience in earthquake response missions in Türkiye and Myanmar.

“Basarnas stands ready if instructed to help rescue earthquake victims in Venezuela, subject to decisions from the central government,” Prakoso said.
