Oman Reaffirms Commitment to Freedom of Maritime Navigation at IMO Council Session
Muscat, The Gulf Observer: The Sultanate of Oman has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to the freedom of maritime navigation in accordance with the principles of international law during the 137th session of the Council of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), currently underway in London.
Delivering Oman’s statement at the session, Eng. Khamis bin Mohammed Al Shammakhi, Undersecretary for Transport at the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, emphasized the Sultanate’s steadfast commitment to safeguarding the security and safety of international shipping routes, protecting lives at sea, and ensuring the uninterrupted flow of global trade.
On the sidelines of the session, the Omani delegation, headed by Al Shammakhi, held talks with the IMO Secretary-General to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation and coordination in maritime security and safety, marine environmental protection, and joint efforts to address emerging maritime challenges.
The discussions also underscored the importance of continued collaboration between Oman and the IMO to enhance international maritime resilience and promote safe, secure, and sustainable shipping, reaffirming the Sultanate’s commitment to supporting global maritime stability and international cooperation.
