Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, US Senator Steve Daines Discuss Expanding Turkmenistan–US Strategic Cooperation

Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, held talks with Steve Daines, a member of the United States Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources and Senator from Montana, during the latter’s visit to Turkmenistan on July 9.

Senator Daines expressed appreciation for the warm hospitality extended to the American delegation and commended Turkmenistan’s impressive socio-economic progress. He described it as a great honor to meet Berdimuhamedov, praising his international reputation as an experienced statesman and visionary leader.

The US senator also conveyed warm greetings and best wishes from US President Donald Trump to the National Leader of the Turkmen people.

In response, Berdimuhamedov thanked the senator for his remarks and extended his best wishes to President Trump, expressing confidence that the visit would contribute to strengthening constructive dialogue and expanding bilateral cooperation between Turkmenistan and the United States.

During the meeting, both sides reviewed the longstanding partnership between the two countries across political, diplomatic, economic, cultural, and humanitarian fields. Berdimuhamedov noted with satisfaction the active engagement between the foreign ministries of both nations and reaffirmed Turkmenistan’s commitment to further deepening bilateral ties.

Senator Daines highlighted the productive cooperation between Turkmenistan and the United States within the United Nations framework and praised the country’s growing focus on sports development, particularly golf, noting the sport’s widespread popularity in the United States.

Trade and economic cooperation featured prominently in the discussions, with both sides recognizing the important role of the Turkmenistan–US Business Council in promoting commercial relations. They also acknowledged the longstanding contributions of leading American companies, including Boeing, General Electric, John Deere, and Case New Holland, in implementing major projects across Turkmenistan.

The two sides identified the fuel and energy sector, along with transport and communications, as priority areas for future cooperation. Berdimuhamedov emphasized Turkmenistan’s appreciation for US support in developing regional transport and transit corridors connecting East–West and North–South routes, as well as backing for the Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan–India (TAPI) gas pipeline project.

The meeting also underscored the significant potential for collaboration in science, education, and cultural exchanges. Berdimuhamedov reaffirmed Turkmenistan’s readiness to enhance joint efforts aimed at promoting broader intercultural dialogue and mutually beneficial cooperation.

The meeting concluded with both Berdimuhamedov and Senator Daines exchanging best wishes for continued success in their respective endeavors, while expressing hopes for lasting peace, prosperity, and stronger relations between the peoples of Turkmenistan and the United States.
