Pakistan, Denmark Sign Strategic Energy Cooperation Agreement to Accelerate Green Transition
Islamabad, The Gulf Observer: Pakistan and Denmark have strengthened their bilateral partnership in the energy sector by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) under the Strategic Sector Cooperation (SSC) programme, marking a significant step towards advancing Pakistan’s green energy transition and promoting sustainable development.
The agreement was signed by Federal Secretary for the Ministry of Energy (Power Division), Dr. Fakhr-e-Alam, and Denmark’s Ambassador to Pakistan, H.E. Maja Derrous Mortensen, during a ceremony witnessed by Federal Minister for Energy (Power Division), H.E. Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari.
Following the signing ceremony, the Federal Minister and the Danish Ambassador held a high-level meeting to discuss the future direction of bilateral cooperation in the energy sector and explore opportunities to further strengthen collaboration in clean energy and sustainable power development.
The Strategic Sector Cooperation programme builds on the successful Danish Energy Transition Initiative (DETI), launched in 2021, which established a government-to-government partnership aimed at sharing Denmark’s expertise in clean energy technologies with Pakistan’s key energy institutions.
Under the renewed cooperation framework, both countries will work closely on three strategic priorities: developing long-term energy planning frameworks, expanding the integration of renewable energy into Pakistan’s national power grid, and improving industrial energy efficiency to reduce carbon emissions and support climate objectives.
The partnership reflects the shared commitment of Pakistan and Denmark to promoting sustainable energy solutions, enhancing energy security, and supporting Pakistan’s transition towards a cleaner, more resilient and environmentally sustainable energy sector.
