Denmark to Participate in 2027 Eurovision Despite Dutch Boycott

Copenhagen, The Gulf Observer: Denmark is expected to participate in the 2027 Eurovision Song Contest despite the Netherlands’ decision to boycott next year’s competition, Danish public broadcaster DR said Wednesday.

Gustav Lützhøft, head of editorial at DR, said Eurovision remains an important cultural event for the broadcaster and Danish audiences, and Denmark currently expects to take part in the contest.

The announcement follows the decision by Dutch broadcaster Avrotros to boycott the 2027 Eurovision Song Contest, which is scheduled to take place in Burgas, Bulgaria. The Dutch withdrawal adds to uncertainty surrounding participation in next year’s competition, although Denmark has indicated that it intends to remain involved.

Lützhøft emphasized the significance of Eurovision for Denmark, saying the contest continues to hold an important place among the country’s television and cultural events. DR’s current position is therefore to participate in the 2027 edition.

The Dutch boycott is expected to draw further attention to the broader debate surrounding participation in the Eurovision Song Contest and the issues influencing broadcasters’ decisions to take part.

Despite the Netherlands’ withdrawal, Denmark’s decision indicates that the contest is likely to retain participation from at least some European broadcasters as preparations continue for the 2027 event in Burgas.
