Tashkent, The Gulf Observer: Economic, science, health, ecology, culture, and education cooperation is efficient. This was emphasized at the meeting of the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbayeva and the United Nations Assistant Secretary-General for Europe, Central Asia and the Americas at the Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs – Department of Peace Operations, Miroslav Jenča.

Special attention was paid to intensifying Uzbekistan’s cooperation with the UN and its specialized structures in recent years. Indeed, the UN specialized agencies in Uzbekistan are currently implementing 137 projects in green economy, climate change, and trade development totaling $174 million.

It was noted that Uzbekistan, within the framework of the UN, puts forward initiatives that find the support of the world community and are a practical contribution to ensuring stability and sustainable development, and protection of human rights.

Thus, at the initiative of Uzbekistan, six special resolutions of the UN General Assembly have been adopted in recent years aimed at developing regional cooperation, ecology, human rights protection, and inter-parliamentary dialogue in accelerating the achievement of the SDGs.

During the conversation, the parties exchanged views on constructive cooperation with the UN to promote Uzbekistan’s initiatives in the international arena, support the reforms being implemented in the country, and take concrete steps to expand and deepen regional cooperation.

The need to develop and adopt a separate action plan of the Senate and the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy in Central Asia for 2024 was also recognized.

The parties exchanged views on implementing new joint measures to mitigate the effects of the drying up of the Aral Sea, improve the level and quality of life of the population of the Aral Sea region, and the construction of modern social and industrial infrastructure facilities in the region.

Issues of strengthening cooperation with the UN and its specialized agencies on the implementation of the action plan for the performance of the provisions of the resolution on Women, Peace and Security for 2022-2025 were also discussed.

Following the dialogue, which took place in a friendly and businesslike atmosphere, an agreement was reached on further enhancing mutually beneficial relations between Uzbekistan and the UN in all spheres.
