China Inaugurates Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters for Liaohe River Basin

Beijing, The Gulf Observer: China marked a significant milestone on Saturday with the official inauguration of the flood control and drought relief headquarters dedicated to the Liaohe River basin. This expansive basin spans multiple northern and northeastern regions, playing a crucial role in the nation’s water management strategy.

The primary responsibilities of the newly inaugurated headquarters encompass guiding and coordinating flood and drought control efforts within the Liaohe River basin. Additionally, it extends its coordination efforts to encompass neighboring river basins situated alongside the Bohai Sea and the Yellow Sea, reflecting a comprehensive approach to water resource management.

Minister of Water Resources, Li Guoying, underscored the pivotal role of the headquarters in prioritizing the safety of lives, property, and water supply within the Liaohe River basin. Minister Li emphasized the need for the headquarters to bolster its capabilities in risk warning and emergency management to effectively respond to varying water-related challenges.

The Liaohe River, coursing through Hebei, Inner Mongolia, Jilin, and Liaoning, stands as one of China’s seven largest rivers. The Liaohe River basin, renowned for its significance as an agricultural and industrial powerhouse, plays a vital role in sustaining economic activities across the region.
