Khalifa University and Purapipe International Sign MoU
Abu Dhabi, The Gulf Observer: Khalifa University of Science and Technology’s Research & Innovation Centre for Graphene and 2D Materials (RIC2D) has joined forces with Swiss pipeline technology firm Purapipe International. The collaborative effort was formalized through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), charting a course for the development of high-performance composite transportation pipelines catering to energy and desalination transportation needs.
The MoU signing ceremony, held at Khalifa University, saw the participation of Dr. Hassan Arafat, Senior Director of RIC2D, and Mathias Dybvik, Chief Technology Officer of Purapipe International.
The essence of this partnership lies in harnessing the potential of advanced nanomaterials, particularly graphene and 2D materials, to revolutionize the development of transportation pipelines. The collaboration aims to explore and apply nanomaterials in addressing the evolving requirements of pipelines, especially those driven by the imperative of decarbonization in the energy and desalination sectors.

Mathias Dybvik of Purapipe International highlighted the potential of thermoplastic nanocomposites in substantially enhancing the performance of transportation pipelines. He expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, “We are looking forward to embarking on this journey with Khalifa University and leveraging their growing capabilities in nanomaterials research.”
