Kashgar’s Cultural Splendor Takes Center Stage at CCTV Spring Festival Gala

Urumqi, The Gulf Observer: In a dazzling showcase of cultural richness and historical grandeur, the ancient city of Kashgar in northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region emerged as a star venue for the widely acclaimed CCTV Spring Festival Gala on Friday evening. The gala not only celebrated the Lunar New Year but also highlighted the unique customs and traditions of Kashgar, sparking conversations and admiration across the nation.

Kashgar, with its deep-rooted history along the Silk Road, seamlessly blended its cultural heritage with modern elements at the CCTV Spring Festival Gala venue. Zeng Jian, the general director of the Kashgar venue, expressed pride in presenting the new face of Kashgar for the new era, integrating the city’s ancient charm with contemporary vibrancy.

Over 2,500 outstanding performers from the region graced the gala, making it one of Xinjiang’s largest cultural events. Remarkably, a portion of the performance stages was constructed on the rooftops of 12 ordinary homes within the ancient city, creating a unique and visually stunning setting.

The spectacular performances not only resonated with local residents but also captivated audiences nationwide. Mrabik Sawaq, a Kashgar resident, praised the gala’s thematic clarity and advanced technological elements. “The unique ethnic dances and musical performances filled me with immense pride,” he remarked after watching the gala with his family on Lunar New Year’s Eve.

He Kui, another resident, lauded the festival’s festive atmosphere and its ability to showcase the beauty of Kashgar’s people, dances, and scenery to the entire country. Expressing hope, He Kui stated, “I hope more people from all over the country will visit Xinjiang and Kashgar.”

Kashgar’s participation in the gala catapulted the city into the national spotlight, drawing tourists from various parts of China. Statistics reveal a remarkable 11.6 percent year-on-year increase in tourists visiting the Kashgar prefecture in January, with tourism revenue reaching 1.32 billion yuan (about 185.82 million U.S. dollars), marking a 12.59 percent year-on-year surge.
