China and Spain Pledge to Elevate Bilateral Ties to New Heights

Madrid, The Gulf Observer: During a meeting with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez on Monday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed China’s commitment to maintaining high-level exchanges with Spain, with the aim of taking their bilateral relations to a higher level.

Wang Yi, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, stated that China is eager to strengthen the synergy of development strategies, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, and enhance people-to-people and cultural exchanges between the two nations.

Celebrating the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties last year, Wang noted that the leaders of China and Spain reflected on the successful experience of bilateral exchanges and set a strategic course for future development. He emphasized that, standing at a new starting point, China is ready to work with Spain to usher in a more glorious 50 years of bilateral relations.

Highlighting the importance of China and Spain as comprehensive strategic partners with significant international influence, Wang urged both nations to take responsibility and contribute stability to the turbulent global landscape.

Wang Yi informed that he had in-depth exchanges with Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares on Sunday. They reached broad common understandings, reaffirmed their comprehensive strategic partnership, and committed to understanding and supporting each other’s core interests to consolidate the strategic foundation of bilateral relations.

Prime Minister Sanchez acknowledged the close high-level contact between Spain and China, which has greatly contributed to bilateral relations. He highly valued Spain’s comprehensive strategic partnership with China and commended China’s positive measures to facilitate economic and cultural exchanges between the two countries. Sanchez expressed Spain’s willingness to work with China to further explore cooperation potential.

Sanchez extended his gratitude to China for supporting Spain’s efforts in safeguarding its territorial integrity and affirmed Spain’s firm adherence to the one-China policy. He applauded China’s constructive role in international affairs and its contributions to global growth, emphasizing Spain’s commitment to supporting Europe-China relations.

In response to severe global challenges, Sanchez proposed that Europe and China jointly uphold the central role of the United Nations in promoting peace, stability, and improved global governance.

Foreign Minister Wang reiterated China’s view of the EU as an important force in the multipolar world and expressed support for European integration, development, and strategic autonomy. He stressed the importance of China and Europe strengthening solidarity and cooperation to prevent bloc confrontation in the interconnected world, emphasizing shared interests and a shared future.
