President Tokayev Delivers Key Address at Kazakhstan Women’s Forum

Astana, The Gulf Observer: The administration office of the Kazakh capital hosted the Forum of Women of Kazakhstan, commemorating the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the National Commission for Women Affairs and Family and Demographic Policy under the Kazakh President. This significant event, reported by media brought together 500 participants, including members of the National Commission from all regions, parliament deputies, representatives of international organizations, the civil sector, and international partners.

At the heart of the forum was a congratulatory message from Kazakh Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, read out by the Chairwoman of the Commission and Kazakh Culture and Information Minister, Aida Balayeva. President Tokayev emphasized the pivotal role played by the Commission in ensuring gender equality, strengthening the institution of the family, protecting motherhood and childhood, and serving as an effective platform for integrating efforts across authorized bodies, the civil sector, and business.

Over the past quarter-century, Kazakhstan has made significant strides, abolishing the list of professions prohibited for women, introducing electoral quotas, and establishing specialized units for the protection of women’s rights. President Tokayev highlighted that the Commission’s experts actively participate in the development of laws and government programs, as well as the implementation of essential social projects and initiatives.

The President congratulated the participants on International Women’s Day, expressing his best wishes for success, health, and good fortune. Kazakhstan has ratified several international conventions on gender equality, fulfilling its obligations to promote equal opportunities. President Tokayev affirmed the country’s commitment to taking systemic measures to increase the role of women in society, promote family values, and create a step-by-step path toward a Just Kazakhstan – a state with equal opportunities for all.

During the forum, Sholpan Karinova, Secretary of the Amanat Party and member of the National Commission, highlighted the importance of promoting women in politics. She proposed joint efforts between the party and the Commission to advance female candidates into leadership positions. Additionally, the Samruk-Kazyna national welfare fund expressed its commitment to increasing the number of women in management, aiming to raise the percentage of women in senior positions from 14% to 30% by 2030.

Artur Lastayev, Kazakhstani Commissioner for Human Rights, provided insights into Kazakhstan’s progress in gender equality. He reported an improved position in the Global Gender Gap Index, ranking 62nd out of 146 countries. The country successfully bridged gender gaps in education and showcased enhanced economic opportunities, particularly in income equality. The forum served as a platform to celebrate achievements, discuss future goals, and reaffirm Kazakhstan’s dedication to advancing the status and role of women in society.
