Photography Week "Narrative" Commences at Sultan Qaboos University

Muscat, The Gulf Observer: Photography enthusiasts and art aficionados gathered at Sultan Qaboos University on Monday to mark the inauguration of Photography Week, themed “Narrative.” Organized by the Photography Group of the Deanship of Student Affairs, this year marks the 27th edition of the esteemed event, promising a captivating showcase of visual storytelling through the lens.

The exhibition boasts an impressive array of 41 photographic works, encompassing a wide spectrum of genres including portraits, nature photography, architectural captures of ancient and modern structures, as well as abstract and studio art. Attendees have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the creative world of photography, exploring interactive and innovative corners such as the creative corner, video graphics, and the studio.

The underlying concept behind Photography Week “Narrative” is to underscore the pivotal role of imagery in conveying moral and narrative concepts. Through artistic performances and exhibitions, the event aims to simulate the impact of visual imagery in fostering intellectual awareness and sensory communication, transcending linguistic barriers.

One notable feature of the exhibition is the active participation of visitors in selecting the winning images through a voting process. Additionally, a jury comprising university graduates has been convened to adjudicate the week’s competition and identify the most outstanding photographic works. Moreover, the Photography Week encompasses a competition for crafting the best short video reel, accompanied by internal artistic workshops to nurture budding talent in the field of cinematography.

The grand finale of Photography Week is slated for March 20, under the esteemed patronage of His Highness Sayyid Dr. Faris bin Turki Al Said. On this occasion, the winners of the competitions will be announced, celebrating excellence and creativity in visual storytelling.

Photography Week “Narrative” at Sultan Qaboos University promises to be a celebration of artistic expression, creativity, and the power of imagery to convey compelling narratives that resonate with audiences from diverse backgrounds.
