Oman to Make Debut at London Design Biennale 2025 with “Memory Network” Installation

Muscat, The Gulf Observer: The Sultanate of Oman will participate for the first time in the prestigious London Design Biennale 2025, set to open on June 5. Oman’s debut will feature an evocative artwork titled “Memory Network”, conceptualized and designed by Omani architect and designer Haitham Al Busaidi.
Presented under the artistic direction of the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth, Memory Network offers a compelling dialogue between tradition and innovation. Drawing inspiration from the rich heritage of Omani pottery, the installation reimagines this ancient craft through a contemporary lens, positioning it within a network that echoes the visual and structural language of modern data centers.
Al Busaidi’s design uses transparent forms inspired by traditional pottery, symbolizing how societies historically stored not just objects, but values—such as survival, communal cohesion, and a sustainable relationship with the environment. These forms are integrated into a network that explores the idea of digital memory, prompting reflection on how knowledge and identity are preserved in today’s interconnected world.
The installation is interactive, inviting visitors to contribute personal memories that become part of a growing digital archive. This participatory element transforms Memory Network into a living repository of human experience, raising profound questions about cultural preservation: What do we choose to remember? And what do we consider precious in our time?
Oman’s participation marks a significant cultural milestone, showcasing the nation’s evolving design narrative on an international stage while honoring its deep-rooted artistic traditions.
