Amir of Qatar and Dutch Prime Minister Hold Official Talks in The Hague

The Hague, The Gulf Observer: The Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and the Prime Minister of the Netherlands HE Mark Rutte engaged in official talks today at the Prime Minister’s Office, Binnenhof, in The Hague.

The Dutch Prime Minister welcomed His Highness the Amir and his accompanying delegation, highlighting the significance of this first official visit by His Highness to the Netherlands. He remarked that this visit underscores the deep and robust relations between the two nations and expressed his eagerness to collaborate with His Highness to enhance mutual cooperation and broaden the scope of their bilateral relationship.

HE Mark Rutte praised the significant role played by His Highness the Amir and the State of Qatar in mediating efforts to achieve an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. In response, HH the Amir expressed his profound gratitude for the warm reception and generous hospitality extended by the Dutch Prime Minister.

His Highness emphasized the importance of this visit in strengthening the distinguished relations between Qatar and the Netherlands, expressing optimism that its outcomes would further strategic cooperation in various fields, benefiting both nations and their peoples.

Reaffirming Qatar’s firm stance on the Palestinian cause, HH the Amir highlighted the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, particularly their right to establish an independent Palestinian state along the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital within the framework of a two-state solution. He reiterated Qatar’s ongoing diplomatic efforts to halt the conflict in Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territories.

During the session, both leaders discussed aspects of cooperation and explored ways to enhance and develop them. They also addressed key regional and international issues of mutual concern, particularly the developments in Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territories.

The session was attended by senior officials from both sides. The Qatari delegation included the Chief of the Amiri Diwan HE Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman, the Minister of State for Energy Affairs Eng. Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi, the Minister of Commerce and Industry HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Qassim Al Thani, the Minister of State for International Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs HE Lolwah bint Rashid Al Khater, and several members of the official delegation accompanying His Highness.

On the Dutch side, the session was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Climate and Energy HE Rob Jetten, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Social Affairs and Employment HE Karien van Gennip, and Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation HE Liesje Schreinemacher, along with other senior officials.

Following their talks, His Highness the Amir and HE the Dutch Prime Minister witnessed the signing of two Memoranda of Understanding: one on economic, commercial, and technical cooperation, and another in the field of defense.

Earlier, HH the Amir and HE the Dutch Prime Minister held a bilateral meeting where they discussed a range of topics of mutual interest, further solidifying the strong ties between Qatar and the Netherlands.
