China and Solomon Islands Commit to Advancing Comprehensive Strategic Partnership

Beijing, The Gulf Observer: China and the Solomon Islands have agreed to advance their comprehensive strategic partnership, following talks between Chinese Premier Li Qiang and Solomon Islands Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele in Beijing on Thursday.

Premier Li Qiang emphasized China’s commitment to promoting sustainable development with Pacific island countries, including the Solomon Islands, aiming to build a closer China-Pacific island countries community with a shared future.

Over the past five years since establishing diplomatic ties, the China-Solomon Islands relationship has seen strong development, marked by deepening political mutual trust and fruitful exchanges and cooperation in various fields. This relationship has become a model of South-South cooperation, Li noted.

China supports the Solomon Islands’ independent choice of a development path that aligns with their national conditions and is willing to continue firmly supporting each other’s core interests, Li stated.

China is ready to share development experience with the Solomon Islands, strengthen cooperation in infrastructure, rural development, information and communications, and low-carbon transformation, and help enhance the Solomon Islands’ internal drivers of development. Additionally, Li expressed willingness to import more high-quality agricultural and food products from the Solomon Islands, encouraged Chinese enterprises to invest in the country, and urged strengthened exchanges and cooperation in education, health, culture, sports, youth, and local communities to facilitate people-to-people exchanges.

Prime Minister Manele expressed the Solomon Islands’ readiness to work with China to deepen exchanges and cooperation in economy and trade, infrastructure development, medical and health care, and poverty alleviation. He highlighted the importance of addressing global challenges such as climate change and promoting the continued development of their comprehensive strategic partnership in the new era.

Following the talks, both sides witnessed the signing of several cooperative documents, including those related to Belt and Road cooperation.
