Almaty Celebrates National Dombra Day with Grand Open-Air Cultural Concert

Almaty, The Gulf Observer: Thousands of residents and visitors gathered in Kazakhstan’s largest city on Sunday to celebrate National Dombra Day at a large-scale open-air concert titled “Dombra – Dastan,” highlighting the country’s rich musical heritage and cultural traditions.

Supported by the Almaty city administration (akimat), the festive event was held at the Alatau Theater of Traditional Art and featured performances by some of Kazakhstan’s leading traditional and contemporary artists.

The concert brought together acclaimed performers and ensembles, including MuzART, Ramazan Stamgazyiev, Aigul Kosanova, Baglan Babizhan, the Kurmanghazy State Academic Orchestra of Folk Instruments, and the Saltanat State Academic Dance Theater.

The program showcased a diverse repertoire of traditional kyuis, terme, folk songs, and contemporary musical compositions, reflecting the enduring significance of the dombra in Kazakhstan’s cultural identity.

According to organizers, the melodies of the dombra symbolized the nation’s rich history, cultural heritage, and the values of unity and continuity across generations.

National Dombra Day is observed annually in Kazakhstan to honor the dombra, the country’s iconic two-stringed musical instrument, and to promote the preservation and appreciation of traditional Kazakh music and cultural heritage.
