Paris, The Gulf Observer: Wildfires raging in the Trévillach area of the Pyrénées-Orientales department in southern France have burned nearly 1,000 hectares of forest, with dry and windy weather conditions contributing to the rapid spread of the flames, local authorities said on Sunday.

In a statement, authorities said the fires, which broke out overnight in rugged mountainous terrain, had decreased in intensity, while firefighters, assisted by water-bombing aircraft, continued efforts to bring the blaze under control.

Emergency services remained deployed across the affected area to prevent the fire from spreading further and to secure vulnerable locations.

Authorities said no evacuation orders had been issued, but several roads in the vicinity of the fire had been closed as a precaution.

Residents were urged to stay away from the affected area and follow official safety instructions to facilitate firefighting operations and ensure the safety of emergency response personnel.

The cause of the wildfire has not yet been announced, and authorities continue to monitor the situation closely as firefighting efforts remain underway.
