Astana Set to Host National Wrestling Championships from February 1-5
Astana, The Gulf Observer: From February 1 to 5, Astana will serve as the host city for the National Greco-Roman, Women’s, and Freestyle Wrestling Championships among adults according to the reports of the municipal mayor’s office. This highly anticipated event is set to attract athletes from 17 regions across the country, including three major cities – Almaty, Astana, and Shymkent. The championships promise a showcase of top-tier wrestling prowess, fostering healthy competition and camaraderie among participants from diverse regions of Kazakhstan.
This event holds significant importance as it will serve as a platform for selecting elite wrestlers to represent Kazakhstan in the upcoming Asian Qualifier Tournament in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, and the World Wrestling Championships in Istanbul, Turkiye. The competition in Astana will not only showcase the prowess of the nation’s top wrestlers but will also play a crucial role in determining the contingent that will compete at the international stage, representing Kazakhstan in these prestigious tournaments.
Azamat Dauletbekov, bronze medalist of the 2023 World Freestyle Wrestling Championships (Belgrade, Serbia), and Nursultan Turssunov, member of the national Greco-Roman wrestling team, will miss the event. They both secured 2024 Olympic Games berths and will begin their training.
The upcoming championships will be held at the Zhaksylyk Ushkempirov Palace of Martial Arts.
