PM Chính Urges Vietnam Airlines to Lead with Green Innovation and Global Ambition on 30th Anniversary

Hanoi, The Gulf Observer: Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính has called on national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines to pursue a path of modern, green, sustainable, and safe development, while cultivating a distinctive cultural identity rooted in Vietnam’s national values.

The Prime Minister made the remarks at a ceremony in Hanoi on Sunday commemorating the 30th founding anniversary of Vietnam Airlines (May 27, 1995 – May 27, 2025).

During the event, PM Chính presented the Prime Minister’s Awards to Vietnam Airlines for its outstanding contributions to national development and international integration. He lauded the airline for fulfilling its mission not only as a key economic enterprise but also as an integral part of Vietnam’s political, defence, diplomatic, and humanitarian efforts.

“Vietnam Airlines plays a core role in serving the nation’s strategic missions—from emergency situations to global cultural exchange and economic diplomacy,” the Prime Minister affirmed.

Over the past three decades, Vietnam Airlines has been a steadfast national companion, especially during critical moments such as the evacuation of Vietnamese citizens from Libya, repatriation missions following Japan’s natural disasters, and hundreds of humanitarian flights during the COVID-19 pandemic.

From modest beginnings with a small fleet and limited infrastructure, the carrier has grown into a four-star international airline, serving 350 million passengers, transporting 4.7 million tonnes of cargo, and operating nearly 100 routes to 53 domestic and international destinations. Through its membership in the SkyTeam alliance, the airline now connects to over 1,000 global destinations.

According to official data, the airline and its subsidiaries have contributed approximately VNĐ68 trillion to the State budget between 1995 and 2024—three times the initial State investment. In 2024 alone, the group recorded a consolidated revenue of nearly VNĐ113 trillion, and a record post-tax profit of over VNĐ7.9 trillion.

Speaking at the event, Đặng Ngọc Hòa, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vietnam Airlines, reaffirmed the airline’s ambition to become a five-star international carrier by 2030. He outlined plans to modernize the fleet, expand the route network, personalize customer services, and embrace digital transformation.

He also stressed the airline’s commitment to investing in high-quality human resources, viewing people as the core of Vietnam Airlines’ long-term development strategy.

Looking to the future, Prime Minister Chính urged Vietnam Airlines to closely monitor global aviation trends, seize emerging opportunities, and harness both internal strength and societal resources. He encouraged bold thinking and strategic ambition, calling on the airline to expand its global reach across all five continents and contribute to enhancing Vietnam’s soft power in culture, tourism, economy, and people-to-people exchange.

The Prime Minister emphasized the need for comprehensive restructuring, efficient use of State support, and investment in modern infrastructure and service quality enhancement. He further instructed the airline to adopt modern governance models, advance its digital transformation, and optimize operational costs to maintain global competitiveness.

“The future of Vietnam Airlines lies in bold vision, innovation, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. Let it be not only a symbol of national pride but also a driver of Vietnam’s integration into the global community,” PM Chính concluded.
