AZAL and Uzbekistan Airways Sign Code-Share Agreement to Boost Connectivity and Tourism

Baku, The Gulf Observer: Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) and Uzbekistan Airways have signed a new code-share agreement, marking a significant step in strengthening air travel links between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan. The agreement aims to enhance connectivity, improve passenger convenience, and deepen cultural and economic ties between the two nations.
Under the new partnership, both national carriers will operate joint flights and offer tickets under their respective flight numbers. This cooperation allows travelers to benefit from increased flexibility and a wider range of travel options between the capitals Baku and Tashkent, with up to nine weekly flights now available.
The code-share agreement also improves transit connectivity through both countries’ key hub airports, Baku Heydar Aliyev International Airport and Tashkent International Airport, enabling more seamless international travel routes for passengers transiting through the region.
Additionally, the agreement expands Uzbekistan Airways’ offerings by providing access to flights on the Samarkand–Baku–Samarkand route, thereby connecting Azerbaijan with one of Uzbekistan’s most prominent cultural and tourism centers.
Jamil Manizade, Chief Commercial Officer of Azerbaijan Airlines, hailed the agreement as a milestone in bilateral cooperation. “The partnership with Uzbekistan Airways reflects the commitment of both airlines not only to expanding their route networks but also to strengthening the ties between the peoples of our countries,” he said. “This agreement marks a significant step toward deeper cooperation, the development of tourism, and the reinforcement of friendship between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan.”
Shukhrat Yadgarov, Deputy Chairman of the Board for Commerce and Tourism at Uzbekistan Airways, underscored the broader significance of the agreement. “The code-share with AZAL is not just about passenger convenience — it is a symbol of friendship and openness between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan,” he noted. “We are confident that this partnership will open new opportunities for travel and bring our nations even closer.”
The agreement is expected to support the growth of tourism, enhance business exchanges, and offer a more seamless and enjoyable travel experience by leveraging the strengths of both national carriers.
