Azerbaijan and Croatia Discuss Strengthening Energy Cooperation and Climate Action

Davos, The Gulf Observer: On January 22, President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, met with Prime Minister of Croatia, Andrej Plenković, at the latter’s request in Davos, Switzerland, according to media reports.
Prime Minister Plenković congratulated President Aliyev on the successful hosting of the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) and expressed appreciation for Azerbaijan’s efforts in advancing global climate action. In response, President Aliyev thanked the Croatian Prime Minister for participating in the conference and highlighted key decisions made during COP29 aimed at addressing global climate challenges.
The two leaders discussed the current state of bilateral relations, particularly in the energy sector, emphasizing Azerbaijan’s significant role in ensuring Croatia’s energy security. They focused on the export of oil and gas from Azerbaijan to Croatia, discussing opportunities to increase the volume of gas exports in the future.
President Aliyev noted that Azerbaijan currently exports gas to 10 European countries, including eight members of the European Union, underscoring Azerbaijan’s recognition by the EU as a vital Pan-European energy supplier.
The conversation also touched on further strengthening cooperation between Azerbaijan and Croatia across various sectors, as well as Azerbaijan’s broader relations with the European Union, with special attention to the intergovernmental commission’s role.
Prime Minister Plenković extended an invitation to President Aliyev for an official visit to Croatia, which the Azerbaijani leader acknowledged positively.
