Azerbaijan Calls for Upholding International Law and Digital Sovereignty at OSCE Parliamentary Assembly

The Hague, The Gulf Observer: Azerbaijan has called for the consistent application of international law and greater protection of states’ digital sovereignty during the 33rd Annual Session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly being held in The Hague, the Netherlands.
The appeal was made by Gaya Mammadov, head of the Azerbaijani delegation to the Milli Majlis, while addressing a session focused on the supremacy of international law, peace and international cooperation.
In his remarks, Mammadov said that double standards and selective approaches remain among the principal reasons for the unsatisfactory implementation of the norms and principles of international law. He stressed that the principles of state sovereignty and the sovereign equality of states must be upheld as fundamental values and respected under all circumstances.
Highlighting emerging challenges in the digital era, Mammadov underlined the importance of applying international law in cyberspace and safeguarding the digital sovereignty of states amid the expanding use of information technologies and the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence.
He said Azerbaijan has pursued a progressive policy aimed at maintaining an effective balance between security, development and the protection of human rights in the adoption and use of new technologies.
The Azerbaijani delegate also briefed participants on the work of the country’s Digital Development Council, established under the leadership of First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva. He described the council as an advanced practice within the OSCE region, noting that it adopts a comprehensive and inter-agency approach to digital development and governance.
Mammadov further emphasized the importance of strengthening international cooperation in the digital sphere to address common challenges and promote the responsible use of emerging technologies while respecting international legal principles.
