Baku, The Gulf Observer: Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis, Sahiba Gafarova, on Wednesday underscored the importance of parliamentary diplomacy and multilateral cooperation in addressing complex global challenges during her virtual address to the 17th Meeting of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) Caucus.

The meeting, held under the theme “The Role of Parliament in Strengthening ASEAN Centrality in Navigating Complex Global Challenges,” brought together parliamentary representatives to discuss the role of legislatures in promoting regional and global cooperation.

In her address, Gafarova emphasized that no country can effectively tackle contemporary global challenges on its own, noting that close international collaboration is essential to advancing peace, security, sustainable development, climate action, as well as food and energy security.

She stressed that achieving these shared objectives requires effective multilateral cooperation based on international law, equal dialogue, and mutually beneficial partnerships among nations.

Highlighting Azerbaijan’s engagement with ASEAN, Gafarova said the country attaches great importance to its cooperation with the regional bloc as an observer parliament in the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA). She reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s commitment to strengthening dialogue and expanding cooperation with ASEAN member states.

The Speaker also described parliamentary diplomacy as a vital instrument for building mutual trust, promoting constructive dialogue, and resolving global challenges through peaceful means.

Reaffirming Azerbaijan’s foreign policy principles, Gafarova said the country remains committed to effective international cooperation founded on international law, the sovereign equality of states, and mutual trust, while continuing to deepen its engagement with regional and global partners.
