Iran Reopens Strait of Hormuz for Commercial Shipping Amid Ceasefire

Ceasefire

Tehran, The Gulf Observer: Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Friday announced the reopening of the strategic Strait of Hormuz for all commercial shipping during the remaining period of a US-brokered 10-day ceasefire between Israeli forces and Hezbollah.

In a statement shared on X, the Iranian foreign minister said the decision was taken in line with the ceasefire arrangements in Lebanon, confirming that commercial vessels would be allowed safe passage through the Strait on coordinated routes designated by Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organisation.

The development comes amid ongoing diplomatic efforts to stabilize the region following heightened tensions between Israel and Hezbollah, with the temporary truce aimed at preventing further escalation.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump acknowledged the announcement on Truth Social, welcoming Iran’s decision to reopen the key maritime corridor.

“Iran has just announced that the Strait is fully open and ready for full passage. Thank you!” Trump stated.

However, in a subsequent post, the US president indicated that the United States Navy would continue its blockade measures in the area until a broader agreement with Iran is finalized. He expressed optimism that a deal could be reached soon, noting that most negotiation points had already been agreed upon.

The Strait of Hormuz, a critical artery for global energy supplies, remains central to regional and international security dynamics, with any disruption or reopening carrying significant implications for global trade and oil markets.
