Azerbaijani PM Highlights Strong EAEU Cooperation at Eurasian Intergovernmental Council Meeting in Almaty

Baku, The Gulf Observer: Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ali Asadov, participated as a guest in the meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council held in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

In his address to the council, Prime Minister Asadov extended gratitude to the government of Kazakhstan for its swift response in conducting search and rescue operations following the Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) plane crash near Aktau, as well as for its assistance in investigating the causes of the tragic incident.

Emphasizing the longstanding and fruitful relations between Azerbaijan and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) member states, Asadov noted that these ties have been nurtured over more than 30 years, grounded in mutual respect and friendship. The prime minister highlighted the intensity of reciprocal visits and engagements, which he regarded as indicative of the positive dynamics in bilateral dialogue at various levels.

“Azerbaijan’s collaboration with EAEU partners spans numerous sectors, contributing to the realization of mutually beneficial projects,” said Asadov. “In particular, the growth of economic and trade cooperation has been noteworthy, with Azerbaijan’s trade turnover with EAEU member states increasing by over 14 percent last year.”

Prime Minister Asadov also underscored the importance of investment cooperation, pointing to major joint investment projects between Azerbaijan and its EAEU partners. “We have established joint investment funds to facilitate mutual investments across different sectors of the economy, and these initiatives are already yielding positive results,” he said.

Azerbaijan’s strategic position at the crossroads of Europe and Asia was another key point in the Prime Minister’s address. Asadov emphasized the country’s growing role as a vital transport and logistics hub in the region. “Our favorable geographical location, coupled with modern infrastructure, has enabled Azerbaijan to become an essential player in Eurasian transport and transit,” he noted.

Furthermore, Asadov reported a significant increase in cargo traffic through Azerbaijan, with transit volume rising by 8 percent last year. “To accommodate this upward trend, Azerbaijan is continually improving the capacity of international transport corridors passing through our territory,” he stated. The Prime Minister also reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s commitment to enhancing its railway and highway infrastructure, which it offers to its EAEU partners to support their transit needs.

Concluding his remarks, Prime Minister Asadov reiterated Azerbaijan’s commitment to deepening cooperation with its EAEU partners across all sectors, further strengthening bilateral and regional ties.
