United Nations Warns of Ongoing Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza Despite Aid Increases

Gaza, The Gulf Observer: The United Nations has warned that humanitarian needs in Gaza remain “immense” despite a recent increase in aid deliveries following the fragile ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, which took effect on January 19 after more than 15 months of conflict.

According to the UN’s World Health Organization (WHO) and World Food Programme (WFP), the flow of supplies into the Palestinian territory has been ramped up since the ceasefire, offering some relief. However, the situation remains dire, particularly in the health sector.

Rik Peeperkorn, the WHO’s representative in the Palestinian territories, spoke from Gaza, highlighting the “immense” health needs in the densely populated enclave. He emphasized the large-scale devastation of the health system, which has been severely impacted by the ongoing conflict.

The WHO is continuing to scale up its response efforts, working to address the urgent medical needs of Gaza’s population amid the overwhelming challenges.
