Azerbaijani Speaker Sahiba Gafarova Meets IPU Secretary General in Geneva

Baku, The Gulf Observer: As part of her official working visit to Geneva, Switzerland, Speaker of the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan, Sahiba Gafarova, held a meeting with Martin Chungong, Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), to discuss the enhancement of bilateral cooperation.
During the meeting, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to deepening ties between the Milli Majlis and the IPU. Speaker Gafarova expressed appreciation for the existing level of collaboration and fondly recalled her previous engagements with the IPU leadership at various international forums.
The two sides also emphasized the significance of the successful parliamentary conference held in Azerbaijan in conjunction with COP29 last year, which was co-hosted by the IPU and the Milli Majlis. They recognized the event as a milestone that not only strengthened parliamentary engagement on climate change but also marked a key achievement in the evolving partnership between Azerbaijan’s legislature and the global parliamentary community.
The meeting underscored mutual interest in continuing constructive dialogue and expanding cooperation on international parliamentary platforms.
