Azerbaijan’s SOCAR Ready to Deliver LNG to Pakistan

Pakistan

Baku, The Gulf Observer: Azerbaijan’s state energy company, SOCAR, has expressed readiness to supply liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Pakistan upon receiving a formal request from Islamabad, as the country seeks to address a widening energy shortfall.

In a statement to Reuters on Tuesday, SOCAR said a framework agreement signed in 2025 between SOCAR Trading and Pakistan LNG Limited (PLL) enables Pakistan to procure LNG cargoes directly under an accelerated mechanism.

“SOCAR is ready to provide LNG to Pakistan as soon as PLL submits a corresponding request,” the company stated in response to queries, reaffirming its willingness to support Pakistan’s energy requirements.

However, SOCAR did not confirm whether a request has already been made by Pakistani authorities, nor did it provide details regarding the timeline of a potential first delivery or the origin of the LNG to be supplied under the agreement.

Pakistan, which relies heavily on natural gas to meet its energy needs, continues to face mounting challenges due to declining domestic production and volatility in global LNG markets. The situation has been further exacerbated by supply disruptions linked to ongoing geopolitical tensions, particularly the US-Israeli conflict with Iran.

The development underscores Islamabad’s efforts to secure flexible LNG supplies through strategic partnerships as it navigates a complex and increasingly uncertain global energy landscape.
