East Java train, bus crash kills 11

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: A train hit a minibus in Lumajang regency of Indonesia’s East Java province on Sunday evening, leaving 11 people dead and three others injured, a rescuer said.

The accident occurred when a minibus passed through a railway crossing which has no train-crossing barrier in Ranupakis village at 19:53 local time, but suddenly a train came and hit the minibus, said Muhammad Hariyadi, head of the provincial search and rescue office.

“As many as 11 people were dead in the accident, and three others suffered from injuries,” he told media over phone, adding that the local search and rescue office has taken part in evacuation of the victims.

An investigation was being carried out at the scene, according to police of the regency.
