President Aliyev Highlights Azerbaijan’s Green Growth Agenda on World Environment Day

Baku, The Gulf Observer: President Ilham Aliyev has reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s commitment to environmental sustainability and green development, stating that the goal of creating a clean environment and transforming the country into a hub of “green growth” remains one of the nation’s top strategic priorities through 2030.
In a message addressed to participants of an event marking World Environment Day (WED), held in Baku in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the President emphasized the importance of environmental protection in Azerbaijan’s long-term socio-economic development agenda.
“The goal of a clean environment and a ‘green growth’ country has been identified as one of the five key national priorities for Azerbaijan’s socio-economic development through 2030,” Aliyev said in his address.
The President noted that the government is implementing a range of targeted measures to advance its environmental objectives, including expanding green spaces and forested areas, promoting the efficient use of water resources, increasing reliance on sustainable energy sources, and developing modern waste-management infrastructure.
“In line with this priority, targeted efforts are being undertaken to enhance green spaces and forest areas, ensure the efficient use of water resources and sustainable energy sources, and establish modern infrastructure for waste management,” he said.
Aliyev’s message underscored Azerbaijan’s ongoing efforts to integrate environmental sustainability into national development policies while supporting global initiatives aimed at addressing climate change and promoting ecological balance.
The World Environment Day event brought together representatives from government institutions, international organizations and environmental stakeholders to discuss cooperation and strategies for advancing sustainable development and environmental protection.
