Ghalibaf Says Ceasefire with U.S. Conditional on Lifting Strait of Hormuz Blockade

Tehran, The Gulf Observer: Iran’s Parliament Speaker and chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf on Wednesday stated that a “complete ceasefire” with the United States would only be achievable if Washington halts its naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
In a statement posted on X, Ghalibaf emphasized that any meaningful ceasefire must not be undermined by what he described as continued maritime restrictions and economic pressure tactics. He argued that maintaining a blockade while calling for a ceasefire represents a “flagrant breach” of trust and undermines prospects for de-escalation.
“A complete ceasefire only makes sense if it is not violated by the maritime blockade and the hostage-taking of the world’s economy,” he said, adding that reopening the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz would remain impossible under such conditions.
The Iranian official also called for an end to what he termed “Zionist warmongering across all fronts,” linking broader regional tensions to the ongoing standoff.
Ghalibaf asserted that military pressure and coercive measures would not achieve desired outcomes, stressing that recognition of Iran’s rights remains the only viable path toward a sustainable resolution.
The Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy transit route, has been at the center of escalating tensions, with any disruption posing significant implications for international trade and energy markets.
His remarks come amid ongoing diplomatic efforts and heightened regional sensitivities, as stakeholders seek pathways to stabilize the situation and prevent further escalation.
