Indonesia Strengthens Migrant Worker Protection Through Multi-Sectoral Collaboration

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: The Ministry for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers has entered into strategic collaborations with various agencies and institutions to enhance the quality of Indonesian migrant workers and ensure their protection.
This initiative was formalized through the signing of memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, the Ministry of Population and Family Development, and Statistics Indonesia (BPS) in Jakarta on Thursday.
Additionally, the ministry signed MoUs with the National Alms Agency (Baznas), Diponegoro University (Undip), and Open University (UT).
Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Minister Abdul Kadir Karding stated that the collaboration aligns with President Prabowo Subianto’s directive to provide comprehensive protection to migrant workers from recruitment to employment.
The partnership with Statistics Indonesia will focus on strengthening data collection related to migrant workers, including those undergoing apprenticeships abroad. Karding emphasized that accurate data is crucial to ensuring the safety and protection of Indonesian citizens working overseas.
Moreover, the ministry will cooperate with the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection to safeguard migrant workers’ families and protect their children. The collaboration with the Ministry of Population and Family Development aims to provide services that strengthen family resilience and economic stability.
The ministry’s partnership with Baznas will focus on capacity building, economic empowerment, social welfare, education, and healthcare for Indonesian migrant workers and their families.
Furthermore, through collaborations with Diponegoro University and Open University, the ministry will work on education, research, and community service programs to support the long-term development of Indonesian migrant workers.
This multi-sectoral approach reflects Indonesia’s commitment to improving the welfare of its migrant workforce and ensuring their protection in line with national priorities.
