Indonesia Urges Investors to Engage Embassies to Resolve Investment Barriers

Indonesia

Jakarta, The Gulf Obsrver: Indonesia’s Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Arif Havas Oegroseno on Tuesday called on global business leaders to first approach Indonesian embassies when they encounter obstacles related to investment in the country.

He made the remarks while speaking at the International Seminar on Debottlenecking Channels held at the Finance Ministry in Jakarta, which was attended by foreign ambassadors and representatives of international business communities.

Oegroseno said that in cases where issues arise that require resolution, investors should report them through Indonesia’s diplomatic missions abroad, which would then coordinate with relevant embassies in Indonesia to facilitate solutions.

He emphasized that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through its overseas missions, serves as a bridge between foreign investors and the Indonesian government. Ideally, he added, investors should begin their engagement by consulting Indonesian embassies to obtain guidance, identify reliable partners, and ensure regulatory clarity before proceeding.

The Deputy Minister also highlighted the government’s establishment of a Debottlenecking Task Force under the Ministry of Finance to address investment-related challenges that hinder economic activity. The mechanism is designed as an official channel for businesses to report operational constraints, which are then reviewed through structured follow-up sessions.

He noted that the system allows authorities to track issues more efficiently, including the timing and location of problems, enabling the Foreign Ministry to monitor developments and assist in accelerating solutions for foreign investors.

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa also underscored the importance of coordination with the Foreign Ministry, particularly in promoting the task force’s platform globally. He said such cooperation would ensure that potential investors are well-informed about available channels for addressing challenges, ultimately improving Indonesia’s investment climate.
