Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten held a telephone conversation on Thursday to discuss international cooperation, progress on the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA), and the latest developments in the Strait of Hormuz.

According to Dutch Ambassador to Indonesia Marc Gerritsen, the two leaders engaged in a productive exchange of views on issues of mutual interest and the importance of strengthening cooperation amid an increasingly complex global environment.

During the call, President Prabowo and Prime Minister Jetten underscored the importance of international collaboration in maintaining regional and global security, stability, and prosperity. They also reviewed developments related to the IEU-CEPA, a key trade agreement expected to enhance economic cooperation between Indonesia and the European Union.

The leaders further exchanged perspectives on the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, a strategically important maritime corridor for global energy supplies and international trade.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations despite ongoing global challenges. The Netherlands and Indonesia maintain longstanding historical, cultural, and economic ties and cooperate across a wide range of sectors, including trade, water management, and sustainable agriculture.

The Dutch government described Indonesia and the Netherlands as like-minded partners working together in a rapidly changing world and committed to expanding cooperation in areas of shared interest.

The telephone conversation follows President Prabowo’s official visit to the Netherlands in September 2025, during which he was received by King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima at Huis ten Bosch Palace in The Hague.

During that visit, discussions focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation in strategic sectors and exploring new opportunities for partnership. The meeting also highlighted the strong personal rapport between President Prabowo and Dutch leaders, reflecting the shared commitment of both countries to deepen relations and promote mutually beneficial cooperation in the years ahead.
