Iran and Russia Pledge to Strengthen Regional and Strategic Cooperation

Tehran, The Gulf Observer: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has emphasized the importance of continued constructive regional interactions between Iran and Russia, highlighting that both nations share similar perspectives on regional issues.

During a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Tuesday, President Pezeshkian reaffirmed Tehran and Moscow’s commitment to strengthening regional and international cooperation through organizations such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), and BRICS.

Expressing satisfaction over the growing bilateral ties, he stressed the need to accelerate the implementation of agreements, particularly the comprehensive strategic agreement between the two countries.

“Iran and Russia possess ample potential to enhance their collaboration, and we are determined to strengthen the Tehran-Moscow ties,” said President Pezeshkian.

Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov conveyed warm greetings from President Vladimir Putin and expressed full agreement with Pezeshkian’s remarks. He reiterated Russia’s commitment to enhancing cooperation and expediting the execution of bilateral agreements, particularly the comprehensive strategic agreement.

Lavrov also highlighted Iran’s upcoming membership in the Eurasian Economic Union, calling it a valuable opportunity for expanding economic and trade relations.

“Iran and Russia have many common interests in continuing their effective regional cooperation,” he added.

Lavrov arrived in Tehran on Tuesday, following his talks with the Turkish Foreign Minister in Ankara. During his visit, he is scheduled to discuss regional and bilateral issues with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi.

His visit comes after President Pezeshkian’s trip to Moscow on January 17, where he met President Putin and signed the comprehensive strategic agreement, aimed at further deepening bilateral cooperation.
