“Khojaly Encyclopedia” Presented in Azerbaijan’s Khojaly

Khojaly, The Gulf Observer: The “Khojaly Encyclopedia,” a comprehensive publication documenting the history, heritage and prominent figures of Khojaly, was presented in the city of Khojaly.

Published in 2026 with financial support from the State Support Agency for Non-Governmental Organizations of Azerbaijan, the encyclopedia was prepared under the concept and project leadership of Sariya Muslum gizi. Its authors are Professor Mubariz Allahverdiyev, Rustam Hajiyev and Durdana Aliyeva.

The encyclopedia consists of four main sections covering different aspects of Khojaly’s historical, cultural and social heritage.

The first section provides information on the history and geography of Khojaly, as well as its architectural and archaeological heritage. It also includes documentation concerning the Khojaly genocide.

The second section is dedicated to the personal stories and fates of the victims of the genocide, including those who were killed, went missing and survived the tragedy.

The third section focuses on prominent figures from Khojaly, highlighting individuals who made significant contributions to the city’s intellectual, social and public life.

The fourth section contains, for the first time, detailed information about the Khojaly beys and their genealogical backgrounds, adding a significant historical dimension to the publication.

Speaking at the presentation, project author and leader Sariya Muslum gizi said the documentary publication had been prepared over a period of three years. She noted that considerable effort had been devoted to collecting, studying and systematizing historical materials related to Khojaly.

Milli Majlis MP Elman Mammadov described the presentation of the encyclopedia in the liberated city of Khojaly as a source of pride. He emphasized the importance of preserving the publication and ensuring that it is passed on to future generations.

According to Mammadov, the encyclopedia contains valuable historical information about Khojaly, including official documents concerning the genocide, making it an important source for preserving the city’s historical memory.

Other speakers at the event also underlined the significance of the publication, particularly the information concerning Khojaly’s intellectuals, public figures and the genealogical history of the Khojaly beys.

The presentation of the “Khojaly Encyclopedia” represents an effort to document and preserve the historical and cultural heritage of the city while making a wide range of archival and historical information accessible to present and future generations.
