KSRNR Releases 153 Arabian Oryx to Boost Biodiversity and Mark Conservation Milestone

KSRNR

Riyadh, The Gulf Observer: The King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Royal Reserve Development Authority (KSRNR) has announced the successful release of 153 Arabian Oryx across the Al-Tubaiq, Al-Khunfah, and Harrat Al-Harrah reserves, as part of its ongoing mission to restore endangered species and enhance natural biodiversity in Saudi Arabia.

The initiative marks a major milestone in the Kingdom’s conservation efforts, with eight new Arabian Oryx births already recorded within the reserves—further validating the success of the reintroduction program.

In a significant conservation highlight, 2022 witnessed the first Arabian Oryx birth in the Al-Tubaiq region in 90 years, underscoring the effectiveness of the protected environments established under the KSRNR’s guidance.

Adapted to desert life, Arabian Oryx are known to be active during the cooler early morning and evening hours, avoiding extreme daytime temperatures as part of their natural survival behavior.

This species reintroduction program is central to KSRNR’s broader environmental strategy to rehabilitate ecosystems, restore ecological balance, and safeguard species threatened by environmental degradation and habitat loss.

By strengthening biodiversity and reviving vulnerable wildlife populations, KSRNR is reaffirming its commitment to sustainable environmental stewardship, aligning with the Kingdom’s wider goals under Vision 2030 to protect and restore natural heritage for future generations.
