Malaysia, Pakistan Discuss Formation of Joint Economic Commission

Islamabad, The Gulf Observer: The Deputy Head of Mission of Malaysia, Mr. Mohd Syafik Firdaus, paid a courtesy call today on Mr. Sajid Manzoor Asadi, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Economic Affairs of Pakistan, during a meeting held at the Ministry’s headquarters in Islamabad.

The discussions centred on the establishment of a proposed Joint Economic Commission (JEC), envisioned as a strategic platform to institutionalise and strengthen economic cooperation between Malaysia and Pakistan. Both sides engaged in a constructive dialogue, identifying potential agenda items and priority sectors to be addressed under the Commission, with the aim of enhancing bilateral trade, investment flows, and development collaboration.

During the meeting, Mr. Syafik and Mr. Sajid reaffirmed the longstanding and warm relations shared between the two nations, highlighting the growing importance of fostering stronger economic and people-to-people ties. They also explored opportunities in emerging sectors, expressing a shared aspiration to align economic cooperation with the principles of sustainable growth and innovation.

As a gesture of goodwill, Mr. Sajid extended an invitation to Mr. Syafik to visit Sialkot, an industrial hub renowned for its innovation and export-driven manufacturing base. The visit is expected to offer deeper insight into Pakistan’s industrial landscape and unlock opportunities for joint ventures and partnerships.

In response, Mr. Syafik extended a cordial invitation to Mr. Sajid to visit Malaysia, highlighting the country’s dynamic economic environment, rich cultural heritage, and thriving multicultural society.

The meeting concluded on a positive and forward-looking note, with both parties expressing confidence in the trajectory of Malaysia–Pakistan relations and reaffirming their shared commitment to translating bilateral engagements into concrete economic and developmental outcomes.

The proposed JEC is expected to serve as a cornerstone in elevating the Malaysia–Pakistan partnership to new heights, fostering deeper cooperation in trade, investment, industrial development, and beyond.
