Myanmar and China Celebrate 75 Years of Diplomatic Relations with Grand Reception in Nay Pyi Taw

Nay Pyi Taw, The Gulf Observer: A grand dinner reception commemorating the 75th Anniversary (Diamond Jubilee) of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and the People’s Republic of China was held at the Mingala Thiri Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw on the evening of 8 June 2025.
The ceremony was graced by Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs of Myanmar, U Than Swe, who delivered the opening remarks. In his address, the Deputy Prime Minister extended warm congratulations on the 75-year-long enduring friendship between Myanmar and China. He underscored the deep-rooted neighborly ties grounded in the principles of peaceful coexistence, mutual respect, and equality.
Highlighting key milestones in bilateral relations, U Than Swe spoke of the elevation of ties to a Strategic Cooperative Partnership, and the affirmation of a community of shared future vision. He reaffirmed Myanmar’s commitment to advancing the agreements and shared objectives discussed during high-level exchanges between Chairman of the State Administration Council, Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, and Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang.
The Deputy Prime Minister also expressed heartfelt appreciation for China’s swift humanitarian response following the Mandalay earthquake, including the timely dispatch of emergency rescue teams and critical relief assistance. In recognition of this support, he presented Commemorative Medals of Appreciation from the Government of Myanmar to the Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar, Ms Ma Jia.
In her return remarks, Ambassador Ma Jia praised the longstanding friendly relations between the two nations and reaffirmed China’s commitment to enhancing multifaceted cooperation with Myanmar in various sectors.
A symbolic Diamond Jubilee Cake was jointly cut by the Deputy Prime Minister and the Chinese Ambassador, marking the occasion.
The evening featured a formal dinner reception, during which cultural troupes from the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture and the Myanmar-China Friendship Association presented traditional dance performances that highlighted the rich and diverse cultural heritage of both countries.
As a token of appreciation, honorary flower bouquets and honoraria were presented by the Deputy Prime Minister and the Chinese Ambassador to the cultural performers.
The event was attended by high-ranking dignitaries, including Deputy Prime Ministers, Union Ministers, Ambassadors, heads of diplomatic missions in Yangon, and senior officials from various ministries, as well as special invitees.
The reception reflected the deep and time-tested friendship between Myanmar and China and reaffirmed both nations’ commitment to enhancing cooperation in the years to come.
