Oman, Italy Sign MoU to Strengthen Cooperation in Heritage and Museums

Milan, The Gulf Observer: The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism of the Sultanate of Oman and the Italian Ministry of Culture on Wednesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation in the fields of cultural heritage and museums.

The agreement was signed during the visit of Oman’s Minister of Heritage and Tourism, Sayyid Ibrahim bin Said Al Busaidi, to the Italian Republic. The MoU was signed by Sayyid Ibrahim bin Said Al Busaidi and Italian Minister of Culture Alessandro Giuli.

The agreement aims to promote the exchange of knowledge and expertise in the management, preservation and restoration of cultural heritage, museum development and the organization of exhibitions.

It also seeks to enhance national capacities in archaeology, heritage conservation, and the establishment and restoration of museums, while facilitating the exchange of specialized expertise between the two countries.

During the meeting, the two ministers discussed the implementation of an executive programme outlining practical cooperation initiatives and explored opportunities to benefit from Italian expertise, particularly in the development of Oman’s Maritime Museum.

The discussions also focused on improving the management of heritage sites and establishing training and residency programmes for Omani personnel engaged in joint archaeological research.

Particular attention was given to enhancing expertise in the management of both terrestrial and underwater archaeological sites, further strengthening cooperation between Oman and Italy in the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage.
