Oman Participates in 3rd Arab Forum for Equality

Cairo, The Gulf Observer: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Social Development, participated in the 3rd Arab Forum for Equality, held in Cairo under the theme “Addressing Inequality in Times of Multiple Crises.”

Oman’s delegation was headed by Dr. Laila Ahmed Al Najjar, Minister of Social Development. The forum was organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) in collaboration with the Sawiris Foundation for Social Development and the Pathfinders Group “For Peaceful, Just and Inclusive Societies.”

The forum aimed to engage specialist policymakers, decision-makers, and civil society organizations from the Arab region to find practical solutions to address inequality during crises. It focused on identifying the links between inequality and multiple crises, reviewing best practices from regions that have successfully reduced inequalities during crises, and developing long-term policies to mitigate crisis risks and ensure stability.

Additionally, the forum included the tenth meeting of ESCWA’s Expert Group on Social Protection Reform in the Arab region. This meeting discussed the progress made by member countries in developing comprehensive social protection systems and compiling country profile reports. Representatives from various countries shared brief overviews of their experiences, challenges, and best practices gained during this process.

Dr. Laila Ahmed Al Najjar’s participation underscores Oman’s commitment to addressing social inequalities and enhancing social protection mechanisms within the Arab region, particularly during times of crisis.
